Wilma Elouise Sheroan, 101, of Monticello, passed away on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at Monticello Healthcare.

She was born on October 20, 1924, in Buffalo to the late Teddie Morgan and Anna Grace (Thompson) Hughes. On April 11, 1945, she married Riley Owen Sheroan in Lafayette; he preceded her in death on June 14, 1971.

A 1942 graduate of Buffalo High School, Wilma owned and operated Washee Selfee Laundry, worked part-time at the Monticello dry cleaners and worked many years laundering and ironing shirts from her home.. She also served as the first female Superintendent of the Indiana Department of Transportation, where she served on several committees and often shared stories of her time working during major blizzards. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary #81, the White County Republican Women's Club, and served as a Republican precinct committee person for several years. She was also named an Honorary Secretary of State of Indiana.

A lifetime member of the Buffalo Church of the Brethren, Wilma served as the church clerk, taught adult Sunday school, and played the piano.

She is survived by two sons, Richard Paul Sheroan of Kokomo and Kevin Lee Sheroan of Monticello; two sisters, Marilyn (George) Waldrop of Peoria, AZ, and Sharon Miller of Elkhart; and two sisters-in-law, Anna Marie Anderson of Rossville and Sue Hughes of Monon. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Lisa Sheroan, Bethany Karn, Katie Faldrep; and five great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Stephan Michael "Mike" Sheroan; daughter-in-law, Sandra Kay Sheroan; grandson Jason Richard Sheroan; brothers, Dr. Ted Hughes, Jack Hughes, and Joseph Hughes; sisters, Burnita Hughes, Barbara Reagan and Marlene King and an infant brother.

A memorial service will be planned at a later date.
