William E. Caldwell

William E. "Pete" Caldwell, 79, of Monticello, passed away on Friday, July 28, 2023 at his residence.


He was born on August 1, 1943 in New Castle to the late William and Eleanor (Weist) Caldwell. On January 6, 1973 he married the former Denise Miller in Monticello and she survives.

He was a New Castle High School and was a Laborer.


Pete worked for the Monticello Street Department for several years. He was a member of Rain Tree Regents Car Club of New Castle and American Streeters Car Club formerly of Monticello. He was an avid NASCAR fan with Dale Earnhardt, Sr. being his favorite driver. He enjoyed mowing his lawn on his rider. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.


In addition to his wife, Denise, he is survived by two sons, Scott Shidler of Spencer, IN, Micky (Theresa) Caldwell of Venice, FL; daughter, Tonya Doornbos of Hoquiam, WA; four granddaughters, Hope Jackson of Goodland, Caitlin Lawson of New Castle, Breeann Caldwell of Los Angles, Shannon Decker of Indianapolis; two grandsons, Robert Doornbos and Bo Doornbos of Monon; sister, Ann Bowman of Monticello; and eight great grandchildren.


In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a stepson, Derek Miller; and infant great granddaughter, Lorelai.


Visitation will be Thursday, August 3, 2023  from 11:00 am until the time of services at 1:00 pm at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello with brother-in-law Gareth Miller officiating..


Burial will follow in Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery.


Memorial contributions may be given to an eye organization of the donor's choice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
