Wendell Hendress

Geo. Wendell Hendress, 85, of Reynolds, went to be with his Heavenly Father on October 26, 2015 at White Oak Health Campus in Monticello. Wendell was born on March 11, 1930 in Sheldon, Il, the son of the late George L. and Amy Pearl (White) Hendress. He was a 1948 graduate of Wolcott High School. His marriage was to Maxine Williams on March 28, 1954 at the Christian Church in Rensselaer. Mr. Hendress was a retired grain and dairy farmer. While farming, he also drove a tour bus part time for Imperial Travel Service. He was a truck driver at Robert L. Kelly Paving and Excavating of Reynolds during the summer months. Mr. Hendress was a member of the Wolcott Christian Church where he served as a deacon and was an elder emeritus. He was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge. He served in the Army during the Korean War. Mr. Hendress enjoyed sports and was an avid Purdue basketball fan, and a long time member of the John Purdue Club. Surviving with his wife are his children, Debbie DeGroff (husband, Joe) of Charleston, South Carolina, and Lana Claton (husband, Kent) of Carmel, and three grandchildren, Ashley Zink (husband, Alex) of Washington D.C., Erica DeGroff of Charleston, South Carolina and Caleb Claton of Carmel. He also has a great grandson, Campbell Zink. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his grandchildren and great grandson He loved them very much. Preceding him in death with his parents was a sister Elsie and four brothers, Albert, Merle, Arthur and Wayne. Visitation will be Friday, October 30 from 5:00 pm (ET) until 8:00 pm (ET) at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home and also one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Funeral services will be Saturday at 11:00 am (ET) at the Christian Church in Wolcott with Rev. Andy Overly officiating. Burial will follow at the Weston Cemetery in Rensselaer. Memorial contributions may be offered to the Christian Church of Wolcott with envelopes available. Online condolences and expressions of sympathy may be extended at www.springerfuneralhome.com
