Wayne Hunt

Listen to Obituary

Kenneth Wayne Hunt (Wayne) passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 2, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with cancer at his home, surrounded by family. Wayne was born to Dale A. Hunt and Amelia M. (Williams) Hunt on March 2, 1942, in Logansport, Indiana. He graduated from Buffalo High School in 1960, where he would walk home from basketball and track practice to milk cows while his father was sick. After losing his father one year later, Wayne worked very hard to maintain the family farm where he had lived his entire life.

At the Frosty Mug Restaurant, he met the love of his life and later married Becky (Whiteman) Hunt on September 6, 1964, at the old Christian Church (Bell Towers) in Monticello, Indiana. Wayne served in the Indiana National Guard from 1964 to 1969 and worked during Winter at RCA. Wayne truly defined the American Farmer and the grit and drive necessary to achieve the American Dream when handed difficult circumstances at such a young age. He dedicated his entire life to raising hogs, cattle, corn, soybeans, and wheat in White County. In 1981, he and Becky were honored with the White County Outstanding Young Farmer Award. Farming was always a family affair with Becky by his side and later joined by his son and grandson to complete the third and fourth generation of his legacy in farming.

Wayne enjoyed restoring his 1961 Ford Galaxie 500 and other antique cars, as well as his love of antique International Harvester tractors. He was a dedicated I.U. and Bobby Knight fan. He especially enjoyed watching both his children and his three grandkids play sports. Wayne also enjoyed playing in the church league Dartball. Wayne thoroughly enjoyed and took great pride in helping maintain the Christian church's Centarbor property.

Wayne was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Becky, along with their only two children, Teresa (Greg) Thompson of Brookston, Indiana, and Phil (Jennifer) Hunt of Monticello, Indiana; four wonderful grandchildren, Payten Hunt (Greater Boston area), Jessup Hunt (Monticello), Brook Thompson (Brookston) and Rachel (Kyle) Swinsky (Chicago).

Wayne was preceded in death by his mother and father, his stepfather, Earl Ginn, and his brother, Robert Hunt.

The family would like to welcome all friends to celebrate Wayne's life on Saturday, November 8, 2025, from 11 am to 1:00 pm, with funeral services starting at 1:00 pm with Pastor Keith Raderstorf officiating at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home.
