Wanetta Ann "Pete" Houghton, 96, of Monticello, passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2025 at White Oak Health Campus.
She was born on January 28, 1929 in Brookston to the late Ralph and Ruth (Hoilman) Bush. On August 7, 1949 she married Kenneth Houghton at the Yeoman Methodist Church and were married for 72 years. He preceded her in death on September 2, 2021.
She attended Yeoman grade school and was a 1947 graduate of Monticello High School. She went on to work as a secretary for REMC and Lafayette Linen Supply for a short time, but spent most of her career being a wonderful homemaker.
Pete was a long time member of the Monticello United Methodist Church and served in many capacities through the years. She was also a member of Tri Kappa, Newcomers, SFLECC and Lake Shafer Welfare Association and Tippecanoe Country Club. She served as den mother for Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. Pete had been the queen of her high school prom and queen at White Oak, a model for charity and was an artist. She volunteered at hospitals and churches. She liked to bowl and golf and once shot a hole-in-one. She liked to travel and moved 26 times in her life. She and Ken had been hosts for foreign exchange students. Pete loved life and her family.
She is survived by her children, Jerry (Kathy) Houghton of Monticello, Vicki Lynn (Logan) Lenahan of Downers Grove, IL, Jeffery Max (Lindy) Houghton of Saginaw, MI, Jack Alan (Candace) Houghton of Bonner Springs, KS and Valeri Ann (Steve) Frank of Monticello; twenty-two grandchildren and spouses; twenty-seven great grandchildren and spouses; and two great-great grandchildren; "adopted son", Kim Whitmer of Krum, TX.
In addition to her husband, Ken, she was also preceded in death by sisters, Nancy Bush and Betty Lou Parmeter.
Visitation will be Friday, May 23, 2025 from 11:00 am until the time of services at 1:00 pm at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello.
Burial will follow in Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given to the White County Food Pantry or the Monticello United Methodist Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
