Virginia Carnahan

Virginia Carnahan, 96, of Mulberry passed away at 6:35 am, Thursday, November 2, 2017 at IU Arnett Hospital in Lafayette.She was born on October 16, 1921 in Louisville, Kentucky. She was the daughter of the late Clarence and Helen Pansy (Ward) Draper. She grew up the daughter of share croppers and understood hard times. Virginia earned her bachelor degree and worked as a middle school teacher teaching library studies and also served as the school librarian. She was a member of Oak Grove Church and was a prayer warrior. After her retirement, she served in Guam as a missionary for two years teaching library studies.She was an avid reader, enjoyed crocheting, and years ago enjoyed her seven year stint when she lived in Florida. Above all, she enjoyed her family, especially her grandchildren.Surviving are her children Lloyd F. Carnahan of Monticello, Madeline (Dean) Street of Attica, and Michael D. (Darlene) Carnahan of Wingate; brother, Clarence (Suzanne) Draper of Texas; eleven grandchildren; and several great grandchildren.She was preceded in death by brothers Jim, Bob, and Don Draper; and a grandson.A graveside memorial service will be at 1pm, Saturday, November 11, 2017 at Hughes Cemetery with Pastor Adam Light officiating.Memorial contributions are encouraged to Hickory Grove Church.Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello is entrusted with care.
