Violet M. Johns, 83, of Monticello, passed away at 11:50 pm, Monday, April 13, 2015 at White Oak Health Campus. She was born on August 23, 1931 in Rush County to the late Melvin and Mary (Haste) Wesley. On November 11, 1947 she married "Pete" Orla Johns. He preceded her in death September 9, 2013. Violet attended the Indiana School for the Deaf. She was the first retiree from Bev Pac which is now Ball Corporation. She was a member of Grace Community Baptist Church and also cleaned the church. She was the deaf interpreter at Calvary Baptist Church. Violet liked crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles. She enjoyed flower gardening, working in her yard, and mushroom hunting. She especially cherished time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She is survived by her children, Roy (Helen) Johns of Monticello, Linda M. (Richard) Cope of Kokomo, Rebecca (Randy) Myers of Rockfield, Nancy (Alan) Nies of Royal Center, Judy Johns of Kokomo, and Allen Johns of Newport News, VA; sister, Millie (Robert) Lewis of MO; and brother, Vernon Wesley of MO; twenty-two grandchildren; thirty-two great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren and one great granddaughter on the way. She was also preceded in death by a son, Jerry Wayne Johns; three brothers; and two sisters. Visitation will be from 4 pm until 8pm, Thursday, April 16, 2015 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello. Funeral services will be at 1 pm, on Friday at the funeral home with Rev. Gary Roberts of Grace Community Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Yeoman Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Grace community Baptist Church with envelopes available at the funeral home.
