Thelma G. Tipton, 100, of Alabaster, Alabama, formerly of Monticello passed away at 9:21 am, Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabaster.She was born on December 14, 1914 in Idaville to the late George Burton and Edna Fern (Crain) Fowler. On July 28, 1934, she married Robert L. Tipton and he preceded her in death on March 22, 1981.Thelma was a graduate of Idaville High School. She was a farm wife and a home maker. She farmed near Seafield beside her husband as they raised hogs, chickens and sold the eggs, and raised crops before moving to Monitcello.She was a life member of the Reynolds United Methodist Church where she was very active and was involved in cooking funeral dinners and Easter Sun-Rise breakfasts.She was an avid gardener, gardening well into her 80's and canned from her garden. She was an excellent cook and sewed and made home decor crafts. Thelma raised many children including her siblings, nieces, and great nieces, teaching all the girls how to cook and sew. Her door was always open and everyone was welcome in her home.She is survived by her granddaughters, Sundy Stover-Burton (husband, Robert Burton) of Alabaster, AL, Marsha (husband, Michael) McHenry of Speedway; son-in-law, Terry Stover of Crawfordsville; and two great-grandchildren.She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Tipton, sisters, Mildrerd Cox, and Norma Grace Kelley; and brothers, Dale and Walter Fowler.Visitation will be from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm Monday, November 30, 2015 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello.Funeral services celebrating Thelma's life will be at 1:00 pm Monday at the funeral home with Rev. Don Newman officiating.Burial will follow in Tippecanoe Memory Gardens, West Lafayette.Memorial contributions may be given to the Alzheimer's Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
