Susan S. Vogel, 71, passed away on August 28, 2022.
She was born on May 2, 1951 to the late Garnette and Marilyn (Holloway) Smith and resided in Delphi, IN throughout her childhood. As a young girl, Susie rode horses throughout Yeoman and later worked at her familys golf course, Hollow Acres, where she mowed fairways and picked up golf balls.
Susie graduated from Delphi Community High School in 1969. She then attended Purdue University where she graduated with a degree in recreational education. Following graduation, she worked as an activity director in Fort Wayne, ran the Monticello Youth Center, and then worked as a vocational rehab counselor for the state of Indiana.
On April 25th, 1981, she married Phil Vogel in Monticello where they raised their 3 daughters. After the birth of their first daughter, Susie dedicated her time at home to her children. She was immensely proud of her family and committed her life to empowering their successes.
Susie is survived by daughters Kaitlyn (Katy) Nowakowski and husband Paul of San Diego, CA, Dr. Kimbre Zahn and her husband Dr. Greg Zahn of Indianapolis, and Kylie Vogel of San Diego. She is also survived by her older brother, Jeffrey Smith and his wife, Donna, of West Lafayette. Susie was a grandmother to Opal Nowakowski, Aubrey and Weston Zahn.
Susie loved animals, riding horses, playing pickleball and bridge, and visiting her daughters. She was an Alpha Delta Pi alumni and a member of Tri Kappa. She was a member of the Monticello United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be private and for the immediate family. There will be a celebration of life on Thursday, September 1 from 4-7pm at Connection Court at the Monticello United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Happy Tails Animal Shelter or a charity of choice.
