Susan A. Wolven, 77, of Burnettsville died at 11:00 pm, Saturday, September 22, 2012 at her residence surrounded by family. She was born January 17, 1935 at the family home in Carroll County near Burnettsville to the late James and Isabelle (Truesdell) Peterson. She married Stan A. Wolven on June 7, 1959 at the First Baptist Church in Burnettsville and he survives. She was a member of Lockport Church. While living in Griffith she attended the Griffith United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School. She was a graduate of Burnettsville High School and earned her bachelors degree from Ball State University majoring in Elementary Education. Before she had children, she was a school teacher in Hobart. She also worked several years before computers at the license branches in Highland and Griffith. She was a member of Crystal Chapter #165 OES in Monticello and was a Past Worthy Matron. She had been a Grand Representative with OES. She had been a member of the Ladies Shrine in Michigan City. She volunteered at the precinct polls in Highland. She enjoyed gardening and flowers. She was a natural artist and also enjoyed quilting, knitting, calligraphy, oil painting, and most recently, rubber stamping. Above all she enjoyed her family and their several travels throughout the United States and the Canadian side of Niagara Falls. Also surviving are 2 sons, Frederick (Charlotte) Wolven of Portage, Charles (Irene) Wolven of Glenwood, Illinois; brother, Jonah Peterson of Burnettsville; and grandson, Linzy Sizer, Jr. of Oak Park, Illinois. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Morris Peterson. Visitation will be from 5 pm until 9 pm (EDT), Wednesday, September 26 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello. Eastern Star services will be at 8:30 pm. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am (EDT), Thursday at the funeral home with Rev. Nord Zootman officiating. Memorial contributions may be given to Lockport Church. Envelopes will be provided at the funeral home. You may sign the online guestbook at www.springerfuneralhome.com.
