Sandra Lee Trinkle, 90, of Monticello, formerly of Portage, passed away on October 21, 2024 at Monticello Healthcare.

Sandra was born in Chicago on July 8, 1934, the daughter of the late Edith T. Auter and granddaughter of the late Lee and Mary Kline of Hammond.

She graduated from Hammond Technical Vocational High School in 1952. After graduating, Sandra worked for Illinois Bell as an operator. She decided to enlist in the U.S. Naval Reserve in 1956. In 1958 she went active, and then served her country for 25 years. During her service time, she was stationed at Great Lakes, IL and also, Denver, CO. Sandra, was part of a specialized unit, that went to Korea on three different occasions for two weeks, assisting the Korean Navy in Logistics. Sandra, retired from the Navy in 1980. She was awarded medals of 'Good Conduct', 'National Defense', 'Navy Reserve Mauritius', and 'Armed Forces Reserve'. 

Later she made the move to Monticello. There she became employed by White County Memorial Hospital as a dietary aide. She became a dedicated employee at Family Dollar in Monon and worked there for over ten years. She completely retired in September of 2018. Sandy was recognized by customers long after she retired.

Sandy is survived by Carol A. Adams, Krys Hannz, Steve and Sandy Wilson; special friends, Jean Oaker, Carol Sue Tote, Betty Moore, Ronda Wrede, Sue Zook and Karlye Maloney.Sandy was a longtime friend of 44 years with 'Bill W.' and 'Dr. Bob'. She will be remembered fondly by all her friends.

Visitation will be Thursday, October 24, 2024 from 10:00 to 11:00 am at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church with Rosary being prayed at 11:00 am. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 11:30 am with Fr. Dan Duff officiating. Military rites will be rendered at the church following services.

Memorial contributions may be given to a humane society of the donor's choice or the Monticello Veteran Honor Guard. Envelopes will be available at the church.
