Ruth M. Smith, 101, of Monticello, passed away at 10:50 am, Saturday, September 5, 2020 at White Oak Health Campus in Monticello.
She was born on August 16, 1919 in Delphi to the late Larry Rae and Ethel (Griffith) Shaffer. On September 2, 1939 she married Sylvan L. Smith in Lafayette. He preceded her in death July 31, 1981.
Ruth was a 1938 graduate of Delphi High School. She was a long time attendant of The First Presbyterian Church of Monticello. Ruth worked for a dry cleaner and Robert Hall Clothing store in Fort Wayne. She was a salesperson at Sixby's Hardware in Monticello. She also worked for Council on Aging, retiring at 80 years old. She enjoyed sewing and gardening, especially roses. She loved animals.
She is survived by two sons, Michael (Donna) Smith of Idaville and Stephen (Alexandra) Smith of Lafayette; four grandchildren, Amber, Cassandera, Raina and Nicholle; 13 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild; three step grandchildren, Brenda, Diana and Brian; five step great grandchildren, Ross, Taylor, Austin Macy, Brady.
She was also preceded in death by four siblings, Dorthea, Mary, Howard and William Shaffer.
Graveside services will be at 2:30 pm, on Saturday, September 12, 2020 at Delphi Masonic Cemetery in Delphi, with Rev. Mike Fanning officiating.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Idaville First Church of God. Envelopes will be available at the cemetery.
