Roger W. Owens, 75, of Monticello, passed away peacefully at his home on July 31, 2026.
He was born on August 1, 1950, in Idaville, in the family home to the late Eathel and Hilda (Andrews) Owens. On May 27, 1972, he married Judy (Spear) Capes at the old Zion Bethel Church building in Monticello.
Roger's career spanned various roles, including carpenter, RCA employee until its closure, and custodian at Frontier High School until his retirement.
He found joy in fishing, camping, woodworking, traveling, and was a dedicated fan of detective shows on the ION Channel and of Court TV. Above all, he cherished spending time with his family and his beloved dogs, Jazzie and Brody. Roger’s kindness, humor, and generous spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Judy of Monticello; children, Tim (Nicole) Capes of Monticello, Michelle Nethercutt of Evansville, and Cindy Keith of Monticello; fourteen grandchildren and bonus grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren and bonus great-grandchildren; and siblings, George (Pam) Owens of Monticello, Marilyn Weihermiller of Tampa, FL, and Carol Garriott of Oxford.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law Chris Keith, grandson Todd “T.C.” Collard, and sister Virginia Jones.
Visitation will be from 5 PM until 8 PM on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello. Funeral services celebrating Roger's life will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday at the funeral home with Pastor John Sullivan officiating.
Burial will follow in Hughes Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given to a White County Backpack Program of the donor's choice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
