Robert W. Guy

Robert W. Guy, 90, of Monticello, passed away at 8:50 pm, Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at his residence.He was born on March 24, 1927 in Detroit, MI. On June 1, 1951 he married the former Dell Englerth in Shreveport, LA and she preceded him in death on May 2, 2015.He was a 1945 graduate of Roosevelt High School and received his bachelor's degree from Purdue University and his Master's degree from Ball State University. He joined the Army in 1945 and over his 22 year military career he also served in the Coast Guard and the Air Force from which he retired. He served during WWII, the Korean War and Vietnam. Following his military, he moved his family to Monticello in 1967 and began teaching mathematics and coached 5th and 6th grade basketball at Meadowlawn. He co-owned the popcorn concession at Indiana Beach with his wife, Dell and worked for the Spackman family in the Indiana Beach office until he retired at the age of 82.He was a member of Libanus Lodge #154 F&AM, Murat Shrine Club of Indianapolis, White County Shrine Club, Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis, Good Fellows, American Legion, VFW and the Indiana State Teachers Association. He was a talented athlete. He enjoyed reading the newspaper and doing crossword puzzles in ink. He was a very generous man. Bob was known to all as a man of few words.He is survived by children, John R. "Jack" (wife, Brenda) Guy of South Bend, Connie (husband, Gary) Hardin of Kilgore, TX, Mindy Guy-Price (husband, Ron Price) of Kilgore, TX, Laura Vaughan (husband, Chad Collier) of Fishers; five grandsons, Wes Hardin, Robert Price, Matt Hardin, Mike Guy, and Mark Guy; and long time special friend, Lana Paxson (husband, William "Bo" Cowger) of Monticello.In addition to his wife, he was also preceded in death by his parents, Alvin W. Guy and Ann (Gardner) Myers; daughter, Sandy Guy, and brother; John M. "Jack" Guy.The children would like to thank Angel Senior Home Care for the great care given over the past several years.Visitation will be from 11:00 am until the time of services celebrating Bob's life at 1:00 pm Monday, May 1, 2017 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello with Rev. Tom Covington officiating. Services will commence with Masonic funeral rites, then by a Shrine Walk by, followed by Rev. Covington.Burial will follow at the Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery with full military rites.Memorial contributions may be given to Cure PSP (Progressive Supranuclear Palsy) or to Guardian Angel Hospice of Logansport.
