Robert L. Lantz, 89, of Monticello died at 9:10 pm, Sunday, December 9, 2012 at IU Health White Memorial Hospital. He was born mile west of his present home on September 9, 1923 to the late Louis B. and Jessie L. (Walther) Lantz. He married Dorothy Baer on February 5, 1950 in Monticello and she survives. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1942. He served in the United States Army in Hawaii from 1945-1946. After returning, he finished his Bachelors Degree in accounting from Manchester College in 1949 and completed a Masters of Business Administration Degree from Indiana University in 1950. He worked in public, industrial, and general accounting for over 25 years, mostly in Indianapolis with Hoosier Motor Club and Ransburg Corporation for 10 years each. He retired at the age of 55, built his present home, traveled, raised cattle, played golf, did substitute teaching, and then went to work for 7 years at the Monticello Post Office, retiring again in 1988. He was a member of the Monticello United Methodist Church. He was an active member of the Kiwanis Club where he served as treasurer of the Kiwanis Foundation. He enjoyed investments, golf, bridge, traveling, and gardening. He is also survived by a son, David (Lacey) Lantz of Ojai, California; daughter, Janie Wilson of Fort Wayne; sister, Ruth Sickler Hoshaw of Tucson, Arizona; 2 sisters-in-law, 1 brother-in-law and several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Arlene Lantz; and a brother, Frank Lantz. Visitation will be from 4pm until 8pm Friday, December 14 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am Saturday at the funeral home with Rev. Brian Beeks of the Monticello United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery, rural Monticello with military rites rendered. Memorials may be given to the Kiwanis Foundation. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
