Robert G. Rice, 93, of Monon, passed away at his residence surrounded by his family.
He was born on January 26, 1929 in Monon to the late Glen W. and Esther (Musselman) Rice. On August 25, 1951 he married Donna J. Rice at the Monon Methodist Church. She preceded him in death August 14, 2012.
He was a 1947 graduate of Monon High School and served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He moved to the family farm with his parents at the age of 2 and lived there his entire life farming the family farm. Bob was a life member of the American Legion and an officer and founding member of Bedford Cemetery Association. He enjoyed farming, family, gardening, reading, Big Ten basketball and going to the coffee shop in Monon.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Monticello.
He is survived by sons, Michael L. (Elizabeth) Rice of Monticello, Gary (Connie) Rice of Monon; daughter, Nancy (Patrick) Scroggs of Monroe, NC; 6 grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, Donna, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Rice; a granddaughter, and infant twin great-grandsons.
Visitation will be from 5 pm to 8 pm (EST), Thursday, April 21, 2022 at the First Presbyterian Church of Monticello. Deacons prayer circle will begin at 4:45 pm Thursday at the church. Friends may also call one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 am Friday at the church with Rev. Kelly Lindsay officiating.
Burial will follow in Bedford Cemetery with full military rites.
Memorial contributions may be given to Bedford Cemetery Association, Monon Fire Department, or to the First Presbyterian Church of Monticello. Envelopes will be available at the church.
