Richard L. Hallett, 80, of Monticello, passed away at 4:20 pm, Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at his residence surrounded by his family.He was born on June 25, 1936 in Gary to the late Arthur and Viola (Westendorf) Hallett. On April 28, 1956 he married the former Martha Bodie in Colorado Springs, Colorado and she survives.He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during Korea. He was a lifetime member of the AmVets and the VFW serving as Past District Commander of the VFW. He was a retired iron worker and a member of the Local 395 out of Hammond and also the Local 433 in Los Angeles, CA. He was and avid fisherman, enjoyed reading and watching westerns, and enjoyed politics. Above all, he cherished time spent with his family. Surviving in addition to his wife, Martha are his children, Steven Hallett, Lori Clark, and Jamie Heazeltine all of Monticello; special niece, Deborah (Chris) Waymire of Monticello; sister, Micki (Hank) Woronka of Gary; his grandchildren, Richard J. and Randall Hallet, Tracey (David) Dilday, Katie Krask, Codie Clark, Sarah (Caleb) Camp, and Erin and Andrew M. Heazeltine; and 2 great grandchildren.Also preceding him in death were a two sisters; five brothers; son, Richard E. Hallett; and a granddaughter, April Krask.Visitation will be from 1:00 pm until the time of services celebrating Rich's life at 4:00 pm Saturday, August 13, 2016 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello. Military rites will be rendered at the beginning of the service.Messages of condolence may be extended at www.springerfuneralhome.com
