Richard J. "Dick" Bossung, 91, of Reynolds, passed away on Saturday, May 24, 2025 at IU Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette.
He was born on April 3, 1934 in Reynolds to the late George and Esther (Vogel) Bossung. On August 22, 1964 he married Charlotte Darlene "Rusty" Rusk at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Reynolds. She preceded him in death on August 2, 1998.
Dick was a 1952 graduate of Reynolds High School and went on to serve in the United States Army. He then owned and operated Bossung Oil.
He was a lifetime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Reynolds. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Holy Name Society.
Dick was a member of the VFW in Reynolds and served on the 4-H sheep barn committee. He enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening, the Chicago Cubs and was an avid fan of Purdue basketball. He cherished his family.
He is survived by daughter, Mary L. Church of Lafayette; son, Douglas R. (Julie) Bossung of West Lafayette; sister, Marjorie (Robert "Bob") Welsh of TX; sister-in-law, Arlene Rusk of NJ; three grandchildren, Ryan (Chey) Church, Evan (Shelby) Bossung, Emily (Kyle) Hall; great grandchildren, Luke Church, Anara Church, Lilly Priest, Sophie Bossung, Easton Bossung, and a great grandson, Baby Church on the way.
In addition to his parents and wife, Rusty, he was also preceded in death by brothers, Wendell, William and Edward Bossung, sisters, Patricia Bossung, Elizabeth "Betty" Kremer and Theresa Minnicus; infant grandson, Adam Church; infant great grandson, Wesley Hall.
Visitation will be from 11:00 am until 12:30 pm Friday, May 30, 2025 at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church. The Rosary will be prayed at 12:30 pm.
A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1:00 pm at the church with Fr. Dan Duff celebrating.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Reynolds.
Memorial contributions may be given to Riley Hospital for Children or checks may be made payable to Emily Hall with a memo for “Wesley’s Book Cart” to honor Wesley Kyle Hall.
