Raymond P. Gooding, of Monticello, passed away at 3pm,Thursday, April 16, 2009. He was born November 16, 1915 at Frankton, Indiana to the late Miles N. Mabel S. (Wewe) Gooding. His marriage was to Edith S. Stevens on July 28, 1957 in Gary. She preceded him in death on July 25, 1997. Gooding was a graduate of Frankton High School where he was president of his class. He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during World War II. He served during the Normandy Invasion and had helped build man-made bridges that were used for the Normandy Invasion. He owned and operated True Flight Arrow Company of Monticello until 2002 when he merged the company with Easton. He was still active in the business as a consultant until his death. He was inducted into the National Bowhunter Hall of Fame. He was awarded the Rotary 4-Way Test Award, and also the Indiana Chamber of Commerce Small Business Exporter of the Year. He was presented Pheasants Forever Sponsor of the Year. He received various honorary awards from Boy Scout & Girl Scout camps for his support. He was an inaugural supporter and supplier of the National Archery in the Schools Program. Archery Business recognized him among the 50 Who Made a Difference in Archery. When he was able, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking, and competitive archery. He also enjoyed attending his rose garden, and supporting youth archery programs. Survivors include Step-Son, Richard Stevens of Indianapolis; Three Step-Grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by 2 brothers, Earl O. and Arthur F. Gooding. Visitation will be from 4 until 8 pm, Monday, April 20 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am, Tuesday at the funeral home with Rev. Chris Dodson of the Monticello Christian Church officiating. Burial will be in Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery, rural Monticello with full military rites. Memorial donations may be made to the Indiana National Archery in the School Program, or to Camp Buffalo archery program. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
