Michael Wayne Norris, 69, of Yeoman, passed away at his residence on Monday, November 16, 2015. He was born on May 21, 1946 in Lafayette to the late Wayne F. and Helen (Goslee) Norris. On February 20, 1966 he married Sandra Lee Jensen at the Monticello First Presbyterian Church and she survives. He was a member of the 1957 Little League State Championship team and a graduate of Twin Lakes High School in 1964. He worked for NIPSCO and started out in the stock room in 1966. He then advanced to groundsman, lineman, dispatcher and then to the position of supervisor of Gas and Electric from which he retired in 2002. Mike served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army National Guard and was a member of the American Legion in Monticello. He helped facilitate the construction of the current American Legion Post. Mike was also a member of the National Rifle Association, Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis, Libanus Lodge #154 F&M, Tippecanoe Country Club, and West Lafayette Golf and Country Club. He served as President of the Yeoman Town Board, Vice President and President of the Board of Directors of the Yeoman Telephone Company until it sold, President of the Yeoman Cemetery Association, and current sexton of the cemetery. He enjoyed cooking, grilling, furniture construction, fishing, hunting, golf, and vegetable gardening. He went on several fishing, hunting, and golf trips with his buddies. His greatest love was his children and grandchildren. He was a member of the Yeoman United Methodist Church. Also surviving are his two children, Michael Bradley (Jennifer) Norris of Westfield, Julie (Brian) Schremp of West Lafayette; sister, Joyce Sheets of Ft. Wayne; and five grandsons, Matthew and Allen Norris, Jack, Nick, and Jake Schremp. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Marjorie Rider. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm (ET) Thursday, November 19, 2015 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello. Masonic services will be a 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm Friday at the funeral home with Rev. David Inskeep officiating. Burial will follow at the Yeoman Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Heart Association or a charity of the donor's choice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
