Michael F. Horney

Michael F Horney, 74, of Monticello, passed away at 3:54 pm, Saturday, December 21, 2013 at St. Elizabeth Central Hospital in Lafayette. He was born on April 10, 1939 in Crawfordsville to the late Donald and Doris (Warren) Horney. On May 7, 1961 he married Patricia "Pat" Doud and she survives and resides in Monticello. He was a graduate of Monon High School. He earned his Bachelor's degree majoring in broadcast productions from Indiana University, Bloomington. He worked as was a writer producer in radio and television broadcasting from which he retired. Michael's greatest passions included being a musician and writing professionally. He loved playing the drums and writing commercials. He attended Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church. He was a member of the Sundowner's Band, a country and western group that performed in Chicago. Most recently he performed the Sinatra Mike's Way at Indiana Beach, nursing homes, and campgrounds in the Monticello area. He is also survived by a son, Michael Scott Horney and a granddaughter, Sophia Joan Horney both of Monticello. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Christopher Michael Horney. The family will receive friends one hour prior to memorial services at 2 pm, Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home. Rev. Chris Dodson of the Monticello Christian Church will officiate services. Memorial contributions may be given to Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
