Merna Rinker

Merna M. Rinker, 79, of Monon passed away Sunday, July 29, 2007, at 12:06 am at Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis. She was born July 11, 1928 in Rural Monon to the late Bloice Barner and the late Esther (Ehnen) Barner. She married Harold D. Rinker on June 30, 1957 at the Monon Untited Methodist Church.He passed away July 30, 1975. Mrs. Rinker was a lifetime member of the Monon United Methodist Church where she served as the chuch treasurer from 1967-1980. She had also been a Sunday shcool teacher. She was a 1947 Graduate of Monon High School. She received her B.S. degree from Ball State Teachers College. She later earned a M.A. degree in library science from Purdue University. She taught in Columbus, Star City, and at North White High School from which she retired in 1974. She taught Home Economics, Biology, and was a librarian. After retiring from teaching, she opened the Busy Fingers Yarn Shop in Monon, which she operated from 1975-1987. She was a 1975 charter member of of Tri Kappa, Zeta Roe Chapter at Monon which she remained active in. She was a life long member of the NEA (National Education Association) . She enjoyed handicrafts. In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Monon United Methodist Church. Survivors include: One Daughter, Esther R. Hardy of Monticello Two Sons, Bryan A. Rinker of Monon , IN and William A. "Bill" Rinker of Monon. Two Sisters, Mary K. Dice of Lehigh Acres, FL and Eloice (Emil) Koekenberg of Monon, IN One Grandson, Christopher M. Hardy of Monticello. She was preceded in Death by her Parents, One Brother, Lowell Barner and a Son-in-Law Timothy Hardy. Visitation will be held from 4-8 pm, Wednesday, August 1 at the Monon United Methodist Church. A Tri-Kappa Memorial Service will be held at 7:30PM. Visitation will also be held at the Church one hour prior to the 11 am services Thursday also at the church. Funeral services will be conducted at the Monon United Methodist Church, Thursday, August 2, 2007, at 11AM with the Rev. Matthew Pickut officiating.
