Maurine B. Wilson, 90, of Monticello, passed away at 1:35pm, Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at Monticello Health Care.She was born on January 24, 1926 in Monticello to the late William R. and Mary (Roberts) Beeman. On May 5, 1951 she married Hubert E. Wilson at the South Side Christian Church in Kokomo and he preceded her in death on May 20, 1997. Maurine was a 1944 graduate of Monticello High School, and of Logansport Business College. She was a member of Pike Creek Church of the Brethren, where she was involved in the Women's Fellowship. She was raised in the Christian Church where she taught primary Sunday School. She also taught Vacation Bible School at the old country Zion Bethel Church. Maurine worked for Long Cliff State Hospital in Logansport as a secretary for the superintendent seven years. After she married, she worked at RBM in Logansport for two years. Maurine and Hubert owned a meat packing business in Lewisburg. The couple then moved to Monticello in 1953 to start farming from which they retired in the 1970's. Maurine and her husband purchased the burial vault business from Tom Watkins and renamed it Monticello Vault. She and Hubert also sold monuments for Rensselaer Monuments Inc. Maurine was a member of the Merri-Mixers Homemakers Club. She enjoyed gardening and flowers. Maurine loved to cook for family gatherings and will be remembered for her cherry delight and homemade sweet pickles. She loved talking to people and never met a stranger. Most of all she cherished time spent with her family, and her greatest joy in life was her grandchildren and great grandchildren.She is survived by her children, Mary Letha Korpita of Monticello, Emily (Bruce) Sweet of Algood, TN, and Chester B. Wilson of Monticello; four granddaughters, Erin (Michael) McCollum of Cookville, TN, Dr. Nicole (Thomas, Jr.) Wilson Hall of Clearwater, FL, Brandy (Michael) Jurdzy of Caledonia, MI, and Sierra Wilson of Monticello; great-grandchildren, Ashlynn McCollum, and Kennedy and Grant Hall.Also preceding her in death was a son-in-law, Frank Korpita.Visitation will be from 4:00 (EDT) pm until the time of services celebrating Maurine's life at 7:00 pm (EDT), Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello with Rev. Chris Dodson of the Monticello Christian Church officiating. Private family burial will be on Wednesday. Memorial contributions may be given to the donor's choice of charity with envelopes available at the funeral home.
