Mary Jean McClintic, 94, of Monticello, Indiana passed away on May 9, 2024 at White Oak Health Campus.
Mary was the daughter of the late Eugene and Edna (Arnett) Slagle, growing up in Argos, IN.
She was very active with cheerleading and singing at the Argos Community High School and singing in the church choir.
Mary married William “Bill” Middleton, son of the late William and Eva Middleton of Argos, and moved to Monticello several years later.
They opened Ace Hardware’s 184th store downtown and really enjoyed the customers and serving the community. They were very present following sports and activities for their four kids. You could always hear Mary calling out encouragement to the players. A highlight each year was the family vacation in Traverse City, MI. Mary was in the choir at the Monticello Christian Church and one of the soprano soloists for more than 60 years. She would regularly break into song at White Oak, where she lived her final years, and we are very grateful for the support she received from the team there.
She is survived by William “Bill” (Debra), Michael “Mike” (Juli), and Lisa Middleton all of Fort Wayne, with 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her older brother Richard “Dick” Slagle and his wife, Phyllis, who are survived by their three children, Rick (Lynne) of North Liberty, IN, Steve (Jill passed away in 2019 ), and Mark (Aniko) in South Bend, and 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She is survived by her younger sister, Jan and her husband Mike Albright in Birmingham, Michigan and their two children Tina (Paul Tranchida) and Craig.Mary’s husband, Bill, passed away in 1981, and also her third son, Scott, passed away in 2015.
Mary remarried the late Wilmer “Willie” McClintic in 1984, who had three children, Linda (Andy Harmon) in Monticello, Tom who passed away in 2018 (Brenda), and Jim in Florida, and 4 grandchildren. They enjoyed traveling together and always spent part of their winters in St. Petersburg, Florida. Willie passed away in 1997.
Mary was so very kind, with such a sweet spirit, always had a smile on her face, a wonderful laugh and a song in her heart. She will be terribly missed here but we do know she is with the Lord.
