Mary Jo Minier

Mary Jo Minier, 93, of Monticello, passed away at 5:35 a.m., Saturday, January 21, 2023, at IU Health White Memorial Hospital.


She was born on October 13, 1929, in Earl Park, Ind., to the late George Alvin and Mobile (Wolfe) Carter. She married Robert Charles Minier, Sr. He preceded her in death. She later married George M. Brock. They divorced, but remained friends.


Mary was a graduate of Earl Park High School. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Monticello, where she was a member of the Presbyterian Women's Circle. Mary was a cosmetician and merchandising manager for Hooks Drugs, Inc., which transitioned to REVCO and later to CVS from which she retired. She was a lifelong member of the Crystal Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star #165 of Monticello. Mary was a longtime den mother for the Cub Scouts and a dedicated volunteer for the American Red Cross. She enjoyed gardening, following current events, reading novels and completing word searches. Mary was an excellent cook and hostess, always making everyone feel welcome. She hosted large holiday gatherings, which included family, friends and an occasional media celebrity or politician.


Surviving are her children: Gregory A. (Sondra) Minier of Arlington, TX, Mary E. Minier (Bill Pyle) of Monticello and Scott Minier of Indianapolis; daughter-in-law, Jacalyn Minier of Arlington, TX; one granddaughter, Jennifer Minier Towner of Arlington, TX; two great grandsons, Logan and Luke Towner; nieces and nephews.


In addition to her parents and husbands, she was also preceded in death by her oldest son, Robert C. Minier, Jr.; brothers, George, Quinton, Bill and Robert Carter; sisters, Rose White and Elnora McDonald; and a grandson, Brien Patrick Minier.


Private graveside services and burial will be in Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery.


Memorial contributions are preferred and encouraged to the IU Health White Memorial Hospital Foundation or the Indiana Sheriffs' Youth Ranch. Donation checks may be sent in care of Springer Funeral Home located at 202 S. Illinois St., Monticello, IN 47960.
