Mary L. Copas, 100, of Monticello, passed away on Monday, June 15, 2026 at IU Health White Memorial Hospital in Monticello.
She was born on April 23, 1926 in Thompkinsville, KY to the late Will and Martha (Carnahan) Goad. On June 1, 1944 she married Oscar Copas in Thompkinsville, KY. He preceded her in death on December 7, 1982.

Mary had worked at Bryan Manufacturing, the old White County Hospital and Twin Lakes School Corporation as a cook. She was a devoted mother to all five of her children, but gave extra time and dedication to her Stephen who had special needs. She took care of him until his death in 2014. 

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Monticello. Mary enjoyed gardening and cooking. She was known for her noodles and tender pot roast. Her last family gathering was on Memorial Day in Medaryville where she was able to spend time with most of her family. She lived in her own home, cooked and did laundry until about two weeks before she passed.

She is survived by her children, Michael C. Copas of Monticello, Marilyn Lowe of Lafayette, Marsha (Tom) Kripisch of Medaryville, Connie (Shane) Mayhew of Fulton, MD; grandchildren, Rodney Lowe, Machelle Hamilton, Melanie Krystal, John Mayhew, Mellissa Mayhew; eight great grandchildren, thirteen great-great grandchildren and one on the way.

In addition to her parents and husband, Oscar, she was also preceded in death by a son, Stephen Copas, brothers, Loren Goad, Lawrence Goad, sisters, Inelle Smith, Lola Jean Muse, Dorothy Pearl Emberton; grandson, Gary Quasebarth, Jr.

Visitation will be from 11:00 am until the time of services at 1:00 pm Saturday, June 20, 2026 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello with pastor Ian McMillan officiating.

Burial will follow in Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to the First Baptist Church of Monticello. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
