Mary B. (Hughes) Briney, 67, of Star City, formerly of Monticello, went to be with the Lord on August 19, 2013, at her home, due to complications from Lambert-Eaton Myasthenic Syndrome. She passed peacefully in the presence of her family. She was born in Monticello on December 7, 1945, to the late Robert L. and Vera (Burns) Hughes. On May 15, 1965, she married her childhood sweetheart John S. Briney, in Lansing, MI. John preceded her in death on June 25, 2013. A 1964 graduate of Twin Lakes High School, Mary attended Indiana State University. While she cherished being a wife and mother, she chose to further her education throughout her life by taking classes through Purdue and Ivy Tech. She had participated in Tri Kappa, Current Literature, and was a member of Family Worship Center. She also owned and operated Bestemors Bed & Breakfast from her home in Monon, IN, for several years. She is survived by her loving daughters, Amy and husband Scott Mathew of Monon, and Tricia and husband Nathan LaGrange of Indianapolis. She was the proud Mommom to five adoring grandchildren, Clayton Mathew of Monon, Connor, Lauren, Carter and Mercy LaGrange, all of Indianapolis. Also surviving are a sister Susan (Jeff) Smithburn, Indianapolis; nieces Lori Fulton of Peachtree City, Georgia, and Lisa Kizer, of Brentwood, Tennessee; and great nephew, Brennan Fulton of Georgia. Visitation will be from 11 am until time of service at 1 pm, Saturday, August 24th at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home, of Monticello with Pastor Andy Weil officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview IOOF Cemetery in rural Monticello. In lieu of flowers please send contributions to Seniors Helpers, or Guardian Angel Hospice, both of Logansport.
