Marvin R. Haygood, 74, of Monticello, passed away at 12:25 am, Friday, May 29, 2015 at his home surrounded by family. He was born on June 21, 1940 in Rensselaer to the late Leslie Oren and Anna Louise (Gibson) Haygood. He was the youngest of eight children. On July 8, 1961 he married Mabel Burns and she survives. Marvin graduated from Idaville High School in 1959 and then worked as a farmer and a sheet metal journeyman for Local 20 out of Lafayette. He retired in June of 2001. He was a member of Guernsey Church of the Brethren and served on the church board, steward commission and was a Deacon. Marvin loved helping people. He put the heating and cooling system in the Idaville Church of God and the Guernsey Church of the Brethren. He did many furnace repairs and installations for free. He was a generous spirit and loved doing for others. He enjoyed bird watching. Above of all, he cherished time spent with his family especially his grandchildren. He is survived by three sons, Robert (Faye) Haygood of Bruceville, Scott Haygood (wife, D'anne Hoscheid) of Monticello, Les Haygood of Appleton, WI; sister, Barbara Justice of White Rock, NM; and five grandchildren, Joseph, Daniel, David, Sarah and Nathan. He was also preceded in death by a son, Danny Lee Haygood; five brothers, Charles, Oren, Richard, James, and Kenneth; and a sister, Lois Haygood. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm Sunday, May 31, 2015 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello and one hour prior to services at 1:00 pm Monday at the Guernsey Church of the Brethren with Rev. Dana Hood officiating. Burial will follow at the Idaville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Guernsey Church of the Brethren with envelopes available.
