M. Joyce Overley, 85, of West Lafayette, formerly of Monticello, died at 4:45am on Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at St. Elizabeth Central Hospital in Lafayette. She had been in failing health for several years. She was born on April 10, 1927 in Monticello to the late John Henry and Harriet (Heath) Hughes. She was married to Robert Dean Overley for 51 years, and they lived most of their lives in Monticello. After his death on Feb. 12, 1999, she moved to West Lafayette. She was a 1945 graduate of Monticello High School. She attended one year at Dennison University in Granville, OH. Mrs. Overley was a member of the Monticello First Presbyterian Church since 1939. She joined Central Presbyterian church in Lafayette in 2001. Mrs. Overley taught Sunday School for 17 years. She was director of the Youth choir for 3 years. Mrs. Overley was a den mother for Cub Scouts for 3 years and a Brownie leader for 2 years. She was a member of Tri-Kappa and Eastern Star since 1945. She enjoyed baking, Bible studies, classical music, choir , golf and family activities. She is survived by 2 daughters, Linda (Ken) Grimes of Piqua, OH, Carolyn (Cal) Yong of Indianapolis; Son, Marshall (Terry) Overley of West Lafayette; Sister, Jean Haddad of Bradenton, FL; Grandchildren, Kristine(Shawn) Collins, Matt (Ashley) Overley, David Overley. She is preceded in death by her five brothers and one sister. Visitation will be from 10am to 11am , Saturday, November 17 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home. Graveside services and burial will take place at Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery immediately following the visitation with Rev. Bill Smutz officiating. A time of remembrance will be celebrated at 3pm Saturday, November 17 at the Lafayette Central Presbyterian Church ,31 N. 7th Street, Lafayette. Memorials may be given to the Bob Overley Memorial Scholarship Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home or donations can be mailed to P.O. Box 752, Monticello, IN 47960 c/o Andy Harmon.
