Lorraine Kay Van Meter

Lorraine Kay Van Meter entered the gardens of Heaven on July 12, 2022 at the age of 68. Lorraine was born in Logansport, Indiana on June 30, 1954 to Mary Jean (Rusty) Pearson Van Meter and Marion (Butch) Van Meter. She graduated from Frontier High School in 1972.
Lorraine loved mother nature in all her forms. Huge flower gardens wrapped around her entire West Lafayette home of 40+ years. She loved history, reading, and country music.
Lorraine had an expansive career with early years serving at Purdue University, Great Lakes Chemical, and the Tippecanoe County Sheriff Department. Lorraine found her passion for research when she started working for Cook Medical Group at Med Institute, then later Cook Research Incorporated in West Lafayette for over 25 years. Upon her retirement in October 2018, Lorraine was honored when Cook Research Incorporated officially named their medical library "The Lorraine Van Meter Library".
Lorraine is survived by two siblings, brother, Terry Joe (Terri Sue) Van Meter of Shipshewana, Indiana, and sister, Rebecca (Marty) Cotterman of Monticello, Indiana; a niece and seven nephews, Caleb Van Meter, Joshua (Kamara) Van Meter, Johanna (Augustine) Van Meter, Chip (Jamie) Cotterman, Matt (Nadia) Cotterman, Tyler (Megan) Cotterman, Trevor (Kayla) Cotterman, and Kirby (Cecilia) Cotterman; great nieces and nephews, Julian, Luna, Otis, Kaylee, Kylee, Avery, Mason, Myles, Aidan, Beau, Lani, and Maggie.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Butch and Rusty.
The family would like to thank the team of doctors who helped support Lorraine through her 7 year battle with cancer: Dr. Hanna and Julie at Simon Cancer Center in Indianapolis, and Dr. Wagner and team from Wagner Chiropractic.
A huge thank you to family, friends, and Cook co-workers, along with Home Instead Senior Care and IU Hospice for their care which allowed Lorraine to stay comfortable at home.
