Leona Wright

Leona Maxine (McCall) Wright was born on the family farm three miles north of Idaville to James Franklin McCall and Nellie Lue (Nelson McCall on October 26, 1925 on her father's birthday.

She married Wilbur Gale Wright, Sr. on January 26, 1952 at the Idaville Methodist Church. They were parents to three sons: Wilbur Gale (wife Susie) Wright, Jr., James Gleason (wife Alicia) Wright, and Donald Paul (wife Jacquie) Wright. Leona had 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Leona loved God and her family. She had a strong Christian faith and was a member of the Monticello Christian Church. Her favorite scriptures were Psalms 23 and 91 often reciting them as well as Matthew 22:37 "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind."

Upon graduation from Idaville High School, she obtained a position at Montgomery Ward and Company in the invoicing and credit department followed by six years employment at the Logansport Machine Company in purchasing. She continued her work career at the Better Business Bureau in Monticello, two years in the Monticello Clerk's Office, 15 years at RCA in Monticello as secretary to management, six years with INDOT office in Monticello retiring at age 69.

Among her talents, she played the piano, the organ, and sang in the church choir. She also taught Sunday School for several years.

Besides her church membership she was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, OES Crystal 165, and P.E.O. Chapter EK.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, sons, Wilbur and James, four grandchildren and brother Ross McCall.

Visitation will be Saturday, January 4, 2024 from 10:00 am until the time of services at 11:00 am at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello with Pastor Benji Riddle officiating.

Private family burial will be in Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Monticello Christian Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
