Larry James Lyons, 83 of Monticello was born November 14, 1936 in Kokomo, passed away Saturday, March 14, 2020 after complications from prolonged medical issues. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Inez (Miller) Lyons, brother Ned, and Larrys son, Walter Gavin Lyons. He is survived by his wife Sandra (Timmons) Lyons, son Kent (Diane Green) Lyons, son Bruce (Beth Herman) Lyons, and grandchildren Nick, Ian and Amy.
Larry was raised in the Kokomo area. He graduated from the Indiana School for the Deaf in 1956 where he met the love of his life, Sandra Timmons. They were married November 5, 1960 at the Monticello United Methodist Church. Larry and Sandra raised their family in Kokomo, and moved to Monticello in 1983. Larry was a tool and die inspector who worked 28 years at Kingston Tool and Die in Kokomo, and retired from Bassett Tool in Monticello. Larry served on the board of The Archibald Memorial Home for the Deaf and a term of President of that board in the 1970s. They attended several deaf congregations and Bible studies over the years, most recently Peace Lutheran Church for the Deaf, Indianapolis, Indiana.
The immediate family will have private services in an effort to respect social distancing due to the current pandemic.
Springer-Voorhis-Draper funeral home, Monticello is entrusted with care.
Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Kokomo.
Memorial contributions may be made in Larrys memory or honor to The Indiana School for the Deaf for residence hall improvements.
