Kenneth Max Houghton, 92, of Monticello, passed away at 12:20 pm, Thursday, September 2, 2021 at White Oak Health Campus.
He was born on April 29, 1929 in Monon to the late Walter Franklin and Emma Etta (Banes) Houghton. On August 7, 1949 he married Wanetta Ann "Pete" Bush at the Yeoman United Methodist Church and she survives.
Ken was a 1947 graduate of Monticello High School and a 1952 graduate of Purdue University. He served Army ROTC while at Purdue During WWII.
He worked for Amoco Oil Corporation as a distribution manager, retiring after 36 years in June of 1988. During his career he and Pete lived in five different states and 26 different homes.
He was a lifelong Methodist and for many years a member of Monticello United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, Detroit Oil Men's Club and Tippecanoe County Club. He also was past director of Junior Achievement and past president of the Monticello Kiwanis Club. Ken was a charter member of SFLEC in Monticello. He enjoyed golfing almost every day after his retirement and made a hole in one in Bradenton, FL. Ken enjoyed watching professional football. He built doll houses for his granddaughters. Ken had an incredible life changing experience when he went on a mission trip to Honduras to help build a school. Kenneth's greatest accomplishment was being married to "Pete" for 72 years and sharing the raising of their children together which fulfilled his dream of a happy family.
Along with his wife "Pete", Ken is survived by his children, Jerry (Kathy) Houghton of Monticello, Vicki Lynn (Logan) Lenahan of Downers Grove, IL, Jeffery Max (Lindy) Houghton of Saginaw, MI, Jack Alan (Candace) Houghton of Kansas City, KS and Valeri Ann (Steve) Frank of Monticello; eleven grandchildren; and twenty-four great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Almon, Wayne and Russell Houghton.
Visitation will be on Sunday, September 5, 2021 from noon until time of services celebrating Kenneth's life at 2pm at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello. Rev. Don Johnson and Ken's son Jack Houghton officiating.

Burial will follow in Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery in rural Monticello.
Memorial contributions may be given to the White County Food Pantry, the Monticello Kiwanis Club or to the Monticello United Methodist Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
