Julia I. Martin, 89, of Monticello, passed away on Thursday, December 1, 2022 at Monticello Healthcare.


She was born on April 16, 1933 in Universal, IN to the late Homer and Esther (Ross) Monroe. On August 7, 1970 she married Donald Martin in Park Forest, IL. He preceded her in death.


Julia worked in the ladies clothing department at Sears in Park Forest, IL from which she retired to become a care giver for her late husband who battled Multiple Sclerosis for 20 years until his death. She was a member of the Deer Creek Christian Church in University Park, IL where she served on the bereavement dinner committee. She later became a member of the Reynolds United Methodist Church. Julia enjoyed ceramics and loved animals, especially dogs and cats. She enjoyed clothing and women's fashion and always looked beautiful. She loved and cherished her family especially her great grandson, Travis.


She is survived by her daughter, Deborah S. (Joe) Johnson of Reynolds; step children, Cathy (Mark) Zieseniss of Idaville, Greg (Betty) Martin of Las Vegas; siblings, Barbara Hayes of Rochester, Vivian Skaggs of Michigan City; two grandchildren, P.J. (Rachel) Johnson of Brandon, FL, Chris Johnson of Reynolds; great-grandson, Travis; and many step grandchildren and great grandchildren.


In addition to her parents and husband, Donald, she was also preceded in death by sisters, Viola Monroe and Doris Huffman.


The family is coordinating a memorial service celebrating Julia's life on December 10, 2022 at 11:00 am EST at the Reynolds United Methodist Church, 600 E 2nd St, Reynolds, IN 47980 with Pastor Wellington Chiomadzi officiating. Lunch will follow at the church.


Memorial contributions may be given to Reynolds United Methodist Church.
