Jerry W. Bunnell

Jerry William Bunnell, 87, passed away January 29, 2021 at Monticello Healthcare.
He was born on May 25, 1933 to the late William and Edna (Buckles) Bunnell. He married the former Shirley Spear on July 1, 1962 and she survives.
Jerry was a member of Monticello United Methodist Church. He graduated from Monticello high School in 1951 and joined the United States Navy. He was aboard ship and fought in the Korean War. After he was discharged from the Navy, Jerry worked for Amoco Oil Company out of Brookston for 18 years where he was awarded a safe driving award. When it closed, he purchased his own semi truck and spent his time burning up the highways, driving thousands of miles covering every state in the U.S.
When Jerry retired from driving, he decided he liked working more than doing nothing. He then went to work for the White County Sheriff's Department where in July of 2009, the Indiana Sheriffs' Association presented Jerry with The County Correctional Officer of the Year Award. This was in recognition of his meritorious service to the citizens of White County and the State of Indiana.
Jerry was a loving and hard working husband and father. He loved watching his children in all their sports achievements, and other accomplishments when he was not on the road working. When his grandchildren were born, it became a different story. It was the highlight of his day to watch them in whatever sport they were doing at the time. Having a very deep voice, and being very vocal, he was heard across every baseball field, basketball court, football stadium, softball field, track field, dance floor and any other place they may be. Many people had told him they would miss his "enthusiasm" when the last grandchild graduated from Twin Lakes High School.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley (Spear) Bunnell; children, Tawny Kay (Terry) Howe of Burnettsville, J. Scott William Bunnell of Monon, Trenton Paul (Tammy) Bunnell of Coraopolis, PA.; grandchildren, Garrett Austin, Olivia Grace, Gabriel Aaron, and Graham Alexander Howe, Rebecca Nicole and Ava Reece Bunnell; great grandchildren, Kara Nicole and Emma Rose McKay and Grayden Wayne Howe (arriving in April); and sister, Sherry (Arthur) Morgan. Jerry is also survived by his furry sidekick, Mr. Prince, the puppy we rescued and the puppy that immediately became Jerry's best friend.
Memorial celebration visitation will be held on Thursday, July 1, 2021 from 4pm to 8pm at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home. Military rites will be rendered at 4pm at the funeral home.
