James E. Paschen, 84, of Monticello, passed away on Thursday, April 30, 2026 at his residence.

He was born on May 26, 1941 in Monticello on the homestead farm known as, Maple Knoll to the late Leslie Henry and Hazel Arlene (Van Meter) Paschen. James was married to Merilyn Bair from (1960 -1986). He then remarried Marilyn (Monte) Roach and she preceded him in death.

Jim was a graduate of Monticello High School and farmed his entire life. His farm had been in the family since 1906. Maple Knoll Farms was named White County Outstanding Homestead in 1976 several years after the devastating tornado. The farm was focused heavily on livestock since 1929 and started with Poland China breed hogs and evolved into raising Duroc, Hampshire and Yorkshire pigs and as a result he raised crossbred club pigs. He was very involved with White County 4-H and children - Brad, Mark & Suzann also showed hogs at the Indiana State Fair. Jim was also a master gardener of both tomatoes and gourds.

He was a long-time member of the Monticello Christian Church.

Surviving are his sons, Bradley (Cathy) Paschen of West Lafayette, Mark (De Anna) Paschen of Brookston; daughter, Suzann (Nick) Nixon of Davenport, FL; step children, Melanie (Jerry) Culp of Kalamazoo, MI, David Monte (Georgina) Roach of Littleton, CO; grandchildren, Claire (Dave) Hastings, Elizabeth Paschen, Allie (Devin) Paschen, Zachary (Kelsey) Spille, Olivia, Alexa and Kailey Nixon; step grandchildren, Elizabeth Culp, Alexandra Roach, Mason Roach; and cousin, George (Kim) Loy of Monticello.

In addition to his parents and wife, Marilyn, he was also preceded in death by sisters, Ruth Blodgett and Patricia "Pat" Martin; and his grandson, Cale Paschen.

Visitation will be Friday, May 29, 2026 from 11:00 am until the time of memorial services celebrating Jim's life at 1:00 pm at Monticello Christian Church with Rev. Dr. Tanny Dawson-Snyder officiating.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Monticello Christian Church. Envelopes will be available at the church.
