James 'Gene' Mekos, Jr.

James "Gene" Mekos, 89, of Monticello, passed away at 1:45 am, Monday, September 11, 2017 at Monticello Healthcare.He was born on May 1, 1928 in Lafayette to the late James and Wilma (Lemming) Mekos. His marriage was to Emma Deckard in 1948 in Lafayette. She preceded him in death in 1996. Gene was an automotive machinist and an entrepreneur. He was a lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie No. 347. Gene enjoyed being in the garage smoking stogies and polishing his Harley. He is survived by three children; several grandchildren and four great grandchildren.Visitation will be from 5pm to 7pm, Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home.Private graveside services will be held at Dayton Cemetery.Memorials may be given to a Shriners Hospital.
