James Edward Spencer

James Edward Spencer, 82, of Monticello, passed away at 10:22 pm, Friday, June 6, 2014 at his residence. He was born on June 2, 1932 in Kokomo to the late Omer Harley and Pansy Marie (Patterson) Spencer. His marriage was to the former Betty Allen in Delphi. She passed away April 25, 1992. Mr. Spencer was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving during Korea and was stationed in Japan. He was especially proud of his service in the U.S. Air Force. He started working at Chrysler in 1956 and retired in 1987. He was a member of the Monticello Moose Lodge #906. He enjoyed fishing, being outdoors, small trips and reading. He also enjoyed looking at facebook and history. He was especially proud of being in the Air Force. Above all, he loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is survived by two sons, David J. (Chris) Spencer of Lafayette, James O. (Jane) Spencer of Monticello; a daughter, Janet Marie (Tracy) Eastes of Monticello; a sister, Joan Sluyter of Buffalo; two brothers, Jack Spencer of Monticello and Mick K. Spencer of Jonesbrough, TN; seven grandchildren, Nathan, Travis, Christie, Crystal, Mackenzie Nicole, and Christopher; and eight great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Beverly Ann Stewart; brother, Bob Spencer and a sister, Phyllis Burkett Graveside memorial services with full military rites will be held at 6:00 pm Friday, June 13, 2014 at Yeoman Cemetery with Rev. Chris Dodson of the Monticello Christian Church officiating. Online condolences can be given at www.springerfuneralhome.com.
