James E. Haygood, 77, of Monticello, passed away at 3:20 am, Sunday, June 11, 2023 at White Oak Health Campus surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on January 8, 1946 in Wolcott to the late Russell and Anna (Boudreau) Haygood. On November 1, 1975 he married the former Sharon (McCloud) Girard in Monticello. She survives.
James was a graduate of Wolcott High School. He was a member of the Oak Grove Christian church, where he served as a deacon. He worked for RCA for 16 years until it closed, Kenny's Standard Station, and Caterpillar until his retirement. James was active with the Tuesday Night Cruisers. He enjoyed car shows, motor sport racing, snowmobiling, manicuring his lawn and Purdue basketball and football. He supported and attended his grandchildren's sporting events and his family is almost certain he never missed a day of work. James enjoyed Sunday pizza and cards, especially UNO with his family and friends.
Along with his wife, Sharon, Jim is survived by sons, Jeff (Alissa) Haygood of Monticello, Todd (Shannon) Girard of St. Louis, MO, and Aaron (Dawn) Girard of Brookston; brother, Harold (Carolyn) Haygood of Monticello; six grandchildren, Jason (Chole) Haygood, Darrian Girard, Aliva Girard, Treven Girard, Trenten Girard and Payton Girard; four great-grandchildren, Pyper Haygood, Emmett Haygood, Bella Girard, and Wesley Girard; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Doris Lee.
Visitation will be on Thursday, June 15, 2023 from 11am until time of funeral services celebrating James life at 2pm at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello.
Burial will follow in Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given to Oak Grove Christian Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
