James "Jim" G. Culross, 62, of Monticello, passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at IU Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette.

He was born on May 4, 1961, in Kokomo to the late David E. and Laurette (Lubrano-Lavadera) Culross. On November 12, 1988, he married Marquita James in Miami, IN.  She survives.

He was a 1979 graduate of Taylor High School where he played in the high school band. He received his associate degree in business from Indiana Wesleyan University. He also attended Purdue University, West Lafayette and Indiana University, Kokomo. He worked at several places and in several capacities over the years including: managing Pizza Huts in Kokomo and Delphi, managing Taco Bell in Bluffton, IN, Portland, IN and Van Wert OH, Wabash National, LCP Transportation, Baker Industrial Supply, Girtz Industries, Vanguard, Kroger in Monticello, and lastly at Talbert Manufacturing as a Material Supervisor.

Jim served on the North White School Board from 2006 - 2018 and was a proud supporter of the North White School Corporation. He was an avid fan of Purdue, Cincinnati Reds, Colts, Indianapolis 500, and NASCAR.

He was a member of New Hope Lutheran Church, Reynolds IN.  He was a man of strong faith and was very active within the church and with his church family.  He was currently serving as church council president along as handling many other duties. Singing in the choir was one of his favorite activities. 

Surviving along with his wife, Marquita are his six children, Kathleen (Robert) Loop of Lafayette, Ashley (Daniel) Hartwig of Lafayette, Allyson Culross of Logansport, Michel (Meghan) Culross of Monticello, Elainna (Bryan) Bowman of Reynolds, James R. Culross of Logansport; siblings, Michel (Pam) Culross of Indianapolis, Claude (Rita) Culross of Baton Rouge, LA, Elizabeth Kupec of Hurst, TX, Mark (Rene') Culross of Fort Worth, TX, Laura Culross of Arlington, TX, Brian Culross of Ft. Worth, TX; sister-in-law, Sandy Culross of Ashland, OH; Mother-in-law, Alma James of Hoover, AL;  grandchildren, Ryder Dean Bowman, Rhett Scott Bowman, Parker Jeanne Culross, Lincoln Henry Loop, Rylee Grace Bowman, Elsie Lynne Culross, and Ellie Sue Hartwig; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws, extended family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, David A. Culross, brother-in-law, Frank Kupec, father-in-law, Rodney James, nephew, Scott Rhew and sister-in-law, Sharon James.

Visitation will be from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm Thursday, January 18, 2024 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello.

Funeral services celebrating Jim's life will be at 10:00 am Friday, January 19, 2024 at the funeral home with Pastor Candice Hinkle of New Hope Lutheran Church officiating.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Community Foundation of White County with memo:  North White Education Foundation: In Memory of Jim Culross.  Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
