Herbert 'Herb' G. Zarse

Herbert Zarse, 82, of Reynolds, died at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 11, 2007, at White County Memorial Hospital in Monticello. He was born February 22, 1925, in Chalmers, to the late William Zarse and the late Martha Krueger Zarse. He married Annabell Snowberger on June 1, 1947, in Monticello, and she survives in Reynolds. He was a veteran of the Army and served as a medical tech in Central Burma and India Burma. Mr. Zarse worked at RCA and then started farming. In July 1970, he was awarded the U.S. Agriculture Farmers Home Administration County Farm Family of the Year. He worked at Segals Delta Trucking and Palmer and Young Distributors. He retired in 2004 due to health reasons. Mr. Zarse was a life-long member of the St. James Lutheran Church, Reynolds and a member of the White County Dartball League, where he played for the St. James Lutheran Church team. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars; a Boy Scout Leader for Monticello Troop 154; and a Brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow. Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Pam Haskins (husband: Rodney) of Monticello and Nancy Woods (husband: Roger) of Reynolds; and three sons, David Zarse of Monticello, Paul Zarse (wife: Diane) of Indianapolis and Michael Zarse (wife: Evelyn) of Monon; and a brother, Harold Zarse (wife: Lucille) of Lafayette. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by 4 brothers, Elmer, Joe, Walter and Reinhart Zarse and 2 sisters, Mildred Zarse and Melinda Huffman. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Friday, July 13, 2007 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home, and 1 hour prior to services at the church. Funeral services will conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. James Lutheran Church, Reynolds, Pastor Charles Blakey officiating. Burial will be in the St. James Lutheran Cemetery, Reynolds. Memorials may be made to the St. James Lutheran Church Window Restoration Fund.
