Gary C. Popplewell, 72, of Monticello, passed away on July 1, 2021 at Monticello Healthcare.
He was born on November 13, 1948 in Grovertown to the late Peter and Audrey (Perkins) Popplewell. On December 23, 1972 he married Marilyn Shipley in Lowell and she survives.
Gary attended Monticello Christian Church.
Gary was a graduate of Lowell High School. He was a farmer and received numerous high yield awards from Crow's seed company. He was a member of Farm Bureau. He coached little league in Hamlet and enjoyed helping his children with 4-H. He was a life long fan of the Chicago Bears, Cubs, I.U. basketball and Notre Dame football. Gary lived a quiet life and was devoted to his family and especially cherished time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Marilyn of Monticello he is survived by his children, Kristen (B.J.) Spry of Reynolds, David Popplewell of Monticello; two siblings, Jean Elam of Indianapolis, Rose Holt of Michigan City; seven grandchildren, Audrey, Jacob, Abigale, Carly, Eli, Lauren, Sammi; and great grandchild, Lennan; several nieces and nephews, several grand nieces and nephews, and several great grand nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by brothers, Rolin, Pete Jr., Roger, and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ben and Catherine Shipley.
A memorial visitation will be from 12:00 pm (EDT) until the time of memorial services celebrating Gary's life at 2:00 pm Sunday, July 18, 2021 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello with Rev. Chris Dodson officiating.
Memorial contributions are encouraged to the American Stroke Association or to North White athletics. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
