Floyd Clinton Carter, Sr., 86, of Monticello, passed away on Sunday, October 14, 2018 at his residence.He was born on February 29, 1932 in Bagley, MN to John and Winnie (Burger) Carter. On July 29, 1951 he married Lavetta "Mae" Johnson. She preceded him in death on December 18, 1996.Floyd served in the Army and went on to be mechanic. He owned Carter's Road Service formally located at Hwy. 24 and 39. He also owned the former Conoco Service Station that was destroyed in the 1974 tornado. He then owned an auto repair clinic in Yeoman before going to work as a mechanic at Hubbard's until his retirement. He was a member of Redmens Lodge and had been a member of American Legion, Eagles, and Moose. He was an avid bowler and bowled in several leagues. He enjoyed stock car racing in the 60's and most especially enjoyed time spent with his family.He is survived by five children, Doris (Aaron) Issler of New Port Richey, FL, JoAnn (Darren) Reed of Monticello, John W. Carter of Monticello, Sharon Shank of Monticello, Floyd Clinton Carter, Jr. (companion Carolyn Franklin) of Monticello; sister, Sharon (Ray) Hansen of Sioux City, IA; 20 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchrildren and one great grandchild on the way and one great-great grandchild on the way.He was also preceded in death by siblings, Doris Maupin, Molly Mercer, George Carter and daughter-in-law, Linda Lou Carter.Visitation will be Friday, October 19, 2018 from 4 pm until the time of memorial services at 5 pm at Lake Shafer Christian Center with son-in-law, Pastor Aaron Issler officiating.Memorial contributions may be offered to Crossing Cultures International, Attn: Aaron Issler or online at www.cciequip.org.
