Elvis J. Wright

Elvis J. Wright, 91, of Monticello, passed away peacefully with loved ones by his side on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at I.U. Arnett Hospital in Lafayette.He was born on July 28, 1925 in Mifflin, IN to the late John and Bessie (Newton) Wright. His first marriage was to Velma Husk and they had five sons. He later married Audrey Wayberg of Buffalo and gained three step sons.Elvis honorably served his country on the U.S. Naval Cruiser Honolulu that sustained heavy damage during the Battle of Leyte Gulf during WWII. Elvis was a foundry worker at Josam Manufacturing in Michigan City until his retirement at age 60. He enjoyed camping and gardening, but above all, he cherished time spent with his family.He is survived by sons, Bruce (Bonnie) of Salt Lake City, UT, Douglas (Carol) of Michigan City, Jerel (Teresa) of New Buffalo, MI and Martin of Shreveport, LA; daughter -in-law, Mary Alice of Lexington, VA; step sons, Danny Neice, Chuck Gardner, and Eugene Gardner; seven grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren.In addition to his parents Elvis was also preceded in death by son Ralph, and daughter-in law, Vicki. A celebration of life will be Saturday, December 10, 2016 at 11:00 am at the funeral home with Rev. Chris Dodson officiating.Online condolences may be given at www.springerfuneralhome.com.
