Elizabeth 'Betty' Cleefman

Elizabeth "Betty" Cleefman, 77, of Monticello, formerly of Reynolds, passed away Monday, October 15, 2007 at 8:55 pm at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. She was born March 14, 1930 in St. Paul's Hospital in Dallas,TX to the late Frank Akers and the late Ella (Broyles)Akers. Her marriage was to George Cleefman on August 22, 1949 at the St. James Lutheran Church by Rev. Petrich. George Cleefman survives in Monticello, IN. Mrs Cleefman graduated from North Dallas High School in 1947 and was a scholar graduate. She attended Texas State College for Women from 1947-1949. She received her Bachelors degree and graduated Cum Laude from St.Joseph College in 1969. Mrs. Cleefman earned her Masters degree from Purdue in 1974. Mrs. Cleefman was a member of the St. James Lutheran Church in Reynolds where she sang in the choir. Mrs. Cleefman retired from Twin Lakes School Corporation after 20 years service. She had taught at Roosevelt and Eastlawn Schools. She and her husband George began farming in Reynolds in 1952, until their retirement in 2004. She was a member of the Honey Creek Home Ec Club, where she remained active, and served in various offices. She was a member of the White County Retired Teachers Association. Mrs. Cleefman was a 4H Leader in Honey Creek. She was the PTO President at Reynolds. She was a member of St. Joseph Alumni Association. She was in "Who's Who" in American Teachers. Mrs. Cleefman was a lover of Music and she played first chair violin with the Dallas Symphony as a teenager. She was a doll collector, and owner of Betty's Corner in Monticello which was later moved to Reynolds. Survivors include: Son, George (Renee) Cleefman, Jr of Reynolds, IN; 2 Daughters, Jane (Dean) DeVoe of Goshen, IN, Virginia (Bert) Peck of Monticello, IN Sister, Virginia (Ron) Tabor of Chicago, IL 3 Grandsons, Chris (Brooke) Cleefman of Reynolds, IN, Chad (Lisa) Cleefman of Reynolds, IN; Scott (Brandi) DeVoe of Goshen, IN 3 Granddaughters, Kian Cleefman of Frankfort, IN, Carie (Adam) Connell of Reynolds, IN, Dena (Matt) Deal of Goshen, IN 16 great grandchildren, and 2 step great grandchildren. She was preceded in Death by her Parents, Infant son, Frank Cleefman, and 2 infant brothers. Visitation will be held from 4-8pm, Thursday, October 18, 2007 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the funeral service on Friday at St. James Lutheran Church. Funeral services will be at St. James Lutheran Church, Friday, October 19, 2007, 10:30 am with Pastor Charles Blakey officiating.
