Earnest Spencer

Earnest Spencer, 65, of Monticello, passed away at 9:00 am, Saturday, May 31, 2014 at his residence. He was born on April 5, 1949 in Jackson, KY to the late Taylor and Dora (Robinson) Spencer. On November 19, 1987 he married the former Judi Anderson in Bedford. She preceded him in death on March 24, 2010. He graduated from Breathitt High School in Breathitt, KY and then served in the United States Army during Vietnam. Earnest worked at the GM Allison plant in Indianapolis retiring following 30 years of service. He was a member of the UAW in Indianapolis. He loved NASCAR and was a fan of Dale Earnhart, Sr. and Jr. He loved building and restoring street rods, cars and trucks. He also enjoyed fishing, but most especially, enjoyed time spent with his children and grandchildren. He was known for his great sense of humor. He is survived by two daughters, Cathy Spencer (companion, Don Cornett) of Freetown, Jennifer (Jack) Retter of Indianapolis; stepson, Jamie (Valerie) Anderson of Noblesville; stepdaughter, Lori (Clyde) Edwards of Freetown,; four sisters, Wanda (Charlie) Froman of Indianapolis, Cappi Hammond of Indianapolis, Penny (Gary) Creek of Plainfield, Patricia Truran of Indianapolis; two brothers, Cleve (Olga) Spencer of Indianapolis, Clarence (Pauline) Spencer of Martinsville; seventeen grandchildren, Justin, Tyler, Ashley, Dalton, Marissa, Jessie, Savanah, Dakota, John, Jacob, Jordan, Cruz, Alex,Lilly, Maggie, C.J., Austin; and a great grandson, Copelin . A celebration of his life will be at a later date at Earnest's Monticello home. Memorial contributions may be given to the Wounded Warrior Project. Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello is entrusted with care. Online condolences may be extended at www.springerfuneralhome.com.
