Earl A. Fillinger

Earl A. Fillinger, 79, of Monticello, passed away on Thursday, March 10, 2016 at his residence.He was born on August 29, 1936 in Indianapolis to the late Halbert E. and Martha Fillinger. On October 6, 1956 he married the former Phyllis Ade in Lafayette and she survives.Earl was a 1954 graduate of Lowell High School in San Francisco, and also attended Purdue University. He was the owner and manager of Fillinger Marine Service. He was a member of the Yeoman United Methodist Church. He was active in the Kiwanis Club and served as past president and lieutenant governor. He had his pilots license and owned his own plane. He was a member of the Aircraft Owner and Pilots Association, and currently maintained his pilot's license. Earl enjoyed traveling, flying, and was an avid reader of U.S. history.Also surviving are his sons, Stuart (Rev. Susan) Fillinger of Monticello, Donald E. Fillinger of Indianapolis, Lewis (Kim) Fillinger of Havre de Grace, MD; six grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.Visitation will be from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello. Visitation will also be one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday. The Monticello Kiwanis club will pay respects at 6pm Wednesday at the funeral home.Funeral services celebrating Earl's life will be at 11 am Thursday at the Yeoman United Methodist Church with Rev. Norman Nellis officiating.Burial will follow at Yeoman Cemetery.Memorial contributions may be given to the Monticello Kiwanis Club Foundation or to the Yeoman United Methodist Church.
