Dr. Louis Albert Abbott, 89, of Monticello passed away at 6:58 pm, on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at Monticello Healthcare. He was born on December 7, 1928 in Chicago Heights, IL to the late Ernest and Ruth Therese (Schilling) Abbott. He married Marilyn (Rubner) in Indianapolis on September 7, 1957 and she preceded him in death November, 28, 1985. On April 21, 1989, in Wheatfield he married the former Wilma (Schuster) Misch and she survives and resides in Monticello.Louis graduated high school in 1946 from St Josephs College Academy. He received his bachelor of science degree from St Josephs College in 1950 and received his DDS from Indiana University School of Dentistry in 1957. Dr. Abbott practiced dentistry in Monticello for forty-five years.He was a veteran of the United States Army and served during Korea.Louis was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church, having served as a Lector, Eucharistic Minister, CCD instructor, RCIA coordinator, and RCIA instructor at Sorrowful Mother in Wheatfield. He was also a Benedictine Oblate at St Meinrad Archabbey. He served on the White County Board of Health for many years, Twin Lakes Board of Education, Contact Help, and Monticello Youth Bureau. He was one of the founders of Monticello Youth Football and was active with the league for 20 years. After retirement, he volunteered at the Indiana Veterans Home, interviewing veterans about their time in service for the Veterans History Project.Along with his wife Wilma, surviving are his children Lorraine Abbott and Michael Abbott, both of Monticello, Jane Abbott, Highwood, IL; step children Barbara (Dan) Stalbaum, Kathy(Greg) Brinkman, John (Linda) Misch, Marianne (Phil) Klemp all of Wheatfield, Carol (Greg) Scott of Frankfort, Jim (Deb) Misch of Monticello, and Ellen( Craig) Hall of Lafayette,; grandchildren, Jason Kerr, Kelly ( Matt) Snyder, both of Brookston, Amanda( Robby) Davis, of Francesville, Andrew Snowberger, of Winamac, and Michael Miller and Frankie Jo Miller, of Winamac; numerous great grandchildren, step grand and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; siblings, Elizabeth Robbins, of Zion IL, and Dr. Loretta (John) Mueller, of Hampton, VA.He was also preceded in death by a sister, Joan Bishop; stepsons Lenny and Jerry Misch; and great grandsons, Hunter and Anthony Snyder.Visitation will be on Sunday, March 25, 2018 from 2 pm until 6 pm (EDT) at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello. The Rosary will be prayed at 1:45 pm (EDT)Sunday at the funeral home.A Mass of Christian Burial will be a 10 am on Monday, March 26, 2018 at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church with Father David Rasner the celebrant.Burial will be in Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery with military rites.Memorial contributions may be given to St. Meinrad Archabby or to The Wound Healing Foundation with envelopes available at the funeral home and church.Messages of condolence may be extended at www.springerfuneralhome.com
