Dorothy Mae Keever, 95, of Monticello, passed away at 1:20 am, Sunday, May 29, 2022 at White Oak Health Campus in Monticello.
She was born on August 19, 1926 in Iroquois County, Illinois at the family home to the late Albert A. and Emma (Ziehr) Alberts. On December 28, 1946 she married Lloyd Keever in Danforth, IL. He preceded her in death November 16, 1988.Dorothy was a telephone operator for Illinois Bell in Gilman, Illinois. She and Lloyd moved the family to Monticello in 1961. She worked as the manager of the catalogue department at Sears, from which she retired. Dorothy was in the Sears building when the tornado struck Monticello on April 3, 1974. She also worked as an account manager for State and Savings Bank from which she also retired. Dorothy was a life long Lutheran and was a charter member of New Hope Lutheran Church where she served on the church council and numerous other committees.She served as a mentor at Woodlawn Elementary School, volunteered as a Pink Lady at the former White County Memorial Hospital and volunteered at the White County Food Pantry. She was a member of the American Legion Women's Auxiliary. She enjoyed bowling mixed doubles and the women's bowling league, and Bunko Club. She was a wonderful cook and baker and was known for her cinnamon rolls and lemon meringue pies. If someone visited her at home or at White Oak Legacy, and left hungry, it was the visitors own fault. Above all else, she loved and cherished her family, friends, and her adopted family of those who cared for her at White Oak Legacy. Dorothys life was a light to many.
Surviving are her children Cindy K. (Dan) Hanenkratt of Monticello, Marcia (David) Klein of Roanoke, and Mike (Mary) Keever of Carmel; two daughters of the heart, Penny Bidle and Vicki Moss both of Monticello; ten grandchildren, Chris Hanenkratt of Monticello, Carrie (Brad) Smock of Monticello, Angela (Darrell) Beverly of Roanoke, Lindsay (Justin) Fromm of Ossian, Troy Reith of Warsaw, Amy Dian of Indianapolis, Cindy (Kerry) DeArth of Fishers, Justin (Nikki) Keever of Noblesville, Laura (Jace) Smith of Westfield, and Laura Bidle Coble of Monticello; 20 great grandchildren, and eight great-great grandchildren plus one on the way.In addition to her parents and husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by a special cousin, Evelyn Ziehr.Visitation will be from 2:00 pm until 6:00 pm Sunday, June 5, 2022 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello and also one hour prior to service on Monday at the church .Funeral services celebrating Dorothy's life will be at 11:00 am Monday at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Delphi with Rev. John Westfall officiating services. The church is located at 1301 S. Washington St., Delphi, IN.Burial will follow in Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery in rural Monticello.Monetary memorial contributions may be given to the White County Food Pantry with envelopes available at the funeral home and church.
