Doris E. Piercy, 91, of Monticello, passed away on Friday, January 12, 2024 at White Oak Health Campus.

She was born on May 24, 1932 in Headlee to the late Robert G. and Mildred K. (Davis) Musall. She was delivered by her grandmother, Estella Catherine (Sharp) Musall at the family home.  On September 15, 1951 she married Marvin A. Piercy in Headlee at the home of Doris' parents.  He preceded her in death October 28, 2013.

Doris was a 1950 graduate of Royal Center High School.  Her first job was at the tomato canning factory in Royal Center and that is where she met the love of her life, Marvin.  After Marvin came back from military service in Germany during Korea, they moved to Monticello and she worked at Bryan Manufacturing and then the White County Soil & Water Conservation District.  When she was not working outside their home, she decorated cakes and took in laundry, mending, and ironing.  She was a very talented artist, hand painting many students’ senior cords. She was also an excellent seamstress, designing their clothes & creating patterns out of newspapers. She enjoyed singing and playing the harmonica.  She had a great sense of humor and was always happy and outgoing. Her smile would light up the room. The foundation of her life was her faith and she took every opportunity to share it!  She was “mom” to many, especially her children’s friends and the neighborhood kids. She cherished her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.   

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Monticello.

Surviving are her children, Cathy (Kevin) Gross of Monticello, Doug (Christine) Piercy of Monticello; brother, Ralph Musall of Lakeland, FL; her grandchildren, Lisa Geier, Leanne (Rob) Brooks, Joseph (Patience) Gross, Kevin (Abbey) Gross, Bridget (Chris) Anderson, Brian Sensney, Brandon (Kiersten) Sensney, Dylan Piercy, Kylie Piercy (fiancé, Braden Plunkett);  great grandchildren, Jasimine, Derick, Andrew, Ryan, Kayla, Jasmine, Riley, Cate, Jay, James, Ava, Liam, Zander, Ryder, Aurora, Athena; two great-great grandchildren, Lucy and Link.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Marvin, she was also preceded in death by infant children, Dennis Marvin Piercy and Gwendolyn Kay Piercy, and  three and half year old son, David Michael Piercy; siblings, Bill Musall,  Betty Stillwell, Nona Malchow, Jim Musall, and Dixie Geisler.

Visitation will be from 4:00 pm (EST) until 8:00 pm Friday, January 19, 2024 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello.

Funeral services celebrating Doris' life will be at 10:00 am (EST) Saturday at the funeral home with Rev. Ian McMillan of the First Baptist Church of Monticello officiating.

Burial will follow in Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to the First Baptist Church of Monticello, Boys & Girls Club of White County, United Way Snack Shack with check memo for all organizations Doris Piercy.  Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
